The paltry and appalling medical facilities
available to the citizens of Kanpur made
me ponder if there could be a state of
art hospital here and thus the idea
to set up RHL was conceived ! After doing
my masters in surgery I worked in New
Delhi for a year and worked out my plan
for a multispeciality corporate hospital.
The road was not easy, with iffy resources
and my little experience in this field,
but with the expert guidance of my parents
and a little push from my family members
I continued to tread into this virgin
field, the rest is history. With an objective
of bringing healthcare of international
standards to common man, Regency Hospital
was commissioned a decade ago. The gestation
period from conception to inception was
not a cakewalk and neither was it without
hindrance. We faced a lot of resistance
from all corners but there were friends
also who were always at beck and call
whenever we needed them.
I travelled widely around the world and
visited some of the well known hospitals
and grasped a few ideas and planned to
incorporate international standards in
my hospital. I developed a deep insight
into the problems related to the management
of hospitals. To implement the project
professionally we tied up with the
Indian Hospital Corporation Limited, for guidance in areas
of equipments selection, operational procedures,
management systems, besides all other
services. All the major equipment was
imported and skeletal services were commissioned
by way of OPD services in the year 1993
in October and regular hospital was commissioned in 1995.
The first three years of commercial operation
were rather strenuous because a new concept
hitherto not existent had to be sold to
the people of Kanpur for treatment by
superspecialists under one roof. The city
lacked advanced medical facilities for
Open Heart Surgery, Kidney Transplant,
Neurosurgical Emergencies besides modern
diagnostics under one roof. The basic
aim was to provide sophisticated diagnostics
and therapeutic facilities of international
standards in Kanpur and decrease the wide
gap between the demand and supply of advanced
medicare. We surged ahead despite all
the obstacles.
In a short span of sixteen years, the
hospital has been able to establish a
distinct identity for delivering superspecialty
medical services in Kanpur and surrounding
areas. The hospital has to its credit,
performance of procedures like coronary
angiography, angioplasty, coronary bypass
surgery, heart valve replacement, kidney
transplant, hip and knee joint replacement
and handling of complicated brain tumours
and spinal disorders. Besides, the hospital
has initiated a large number of procedures
which were hitherto not being practiced
in Kanpur in virtually all specialties.
After establishing itself as a centre
of excellence in a short span of sixteen years,
the hospital is aiming for massive expansion
plans, which include expansion of bed
capacity, state of the art emergency room
and trauma centre, a dedicated Urology-Nephrology
and Gastroenterology centre, up gradation
of equipment, installation of MRI and
creation of certain new specialties. Ever
since its establishment, RHL has never
looked back in bringing high quality medical
services to the city of Kanpur. Each and
every step RHL has taken so far is exclusively
aimed at providing best medicare in the
state. To date RHL has treated scores
of patients of various ailments, many
of these cases were critical and complicated.
RHL’s success as per people’s estimate
has been its commitment to provide high
standard of healthcare. Patients checking
in the Regency Hospital have always found
themselves in the best medical hands the
country can offer and that too at a cost
which is highly competitive.
